Gloria Alvarez Rodriguez

BIOGRAPHY

Gloria is a native Houstonian and an active leader in the community. She presently works with the City of Houston as the Director of Constituent Services for Councilmember Robert Gallegos of District I. Tejano Center for Community Concerns formerly employed her as the P.R./Special Events Manager and H.R./Benefits Manager. Ms. Alvarez’s career ambitions are as diverse as her community involvement. Before joining Tejano Center, Ms. Alvarez Rodriguez held various positions, from working for the City of Houston to assisting the Katrina evacuees, Community Liaison for S.E.R. Jobs for Progress, and serving as a Human Resource Specialist at Enron Corporation.

Alvarez Rodriguez has taken the necessary steps needed to be able to give the utmost service. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy and the University of Houston in Business Administration.
Gloria has served as President of Hispanic Women In Leadership, a role she took to heart. She has served as Board Member & Chair at the Y.M.C.A. Cossaboom and as a Texas Executive Women Board Member. Presently is a L.U.L.A.C. 60 Member & Board Officer, Advisory Board Member of Barrio Dogs, Board Member for Unity for Solution, & Board Member of Bikes 4 Excellence. Gloria is also an American Legion Auxiliary Unit 472 (Women) member. She belongs to the Navarro East End Community Council, a part of Yolanda Black Navarro Middle School.

In 2000, Houston Area Women’s Center awarded her the Volunteer of The Year award. In 2007, Ms. Alvarez Rodriguez was selected and received the Willie Velasquez Excellence Award for her community service. In 2008 she also received the Inspiring Hispanic Women Award and the Y.M.C.A. Volunteer of the Year for 2008-2009. In 2009, I was an LI Leadership Graduate of Class II. In 2022 A proud volunteer for Shoes for Kids for 30 years and Best Christmas Ever for ten years. A Graduate of Latina Entrepreneur Academy @ U of Houston Downtown. On Friday, May 12, 2023, she received from H.C.C. Honorary Degree in recognition of her continuing contribution to education and the community.

Ms. Alvarez Rodriguez said, “Civic involvement was a major part of my upbringing and the greatest legacy my parents have passed on to me.” She observed the art of giving through her parents, who were directly involved in the Hispanic community working and striving to improve conditions for families, Seniors, and kids. She is a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
