Claudia Ortega Hogue is the Founder + CEO of Global Communities Houston, LLC, a Business Entrepreneur, Community Advocate, and current President of Houston’s League of Women Voters. Her primary goal has been focused on non-profit organizations, under-resourced communities and raising awareness on social concerns through education, immigration, and voting.
Claudia served as the District Director for the 29th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives for one of the first Latina’s to ever represent the State of Texas, Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia. In this role, she oversaw the management and operation of the district office, served as a key liaison to local elected officials, community organizations, constituent services, businesses and Washington, DC. Her primary focus areas included congressional representation, immigration, voting, decennial census, and government affairs at the local, state, and federal level.
Prior to joining the U.S. House of Representatives, Claudia worked over a decade as the Southwest Regional and Texas State Director with the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund. NALEO Educational Fund is the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates and promotes full participation of Latinos in the American political process. She focused on U.S. citizenship/naturalization, civic participation and integration, voter engagement and census mobilization campaigns throughout Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
Claudia’s most recent appointment by the Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to serve on the Advisory Council of New Americans and Immigrant Communities for the City of Houston. Past appointments include, Co-Chair for the Mayor’s Advisory Council of International Communities, Mayor’s Public Safety Transition team, and Co-Chair of the City of Houston’s Citizenship Month initiative with former Mayor Parker.
Claudia serves in several local and national nonprofit board positions, such as the AVANCE-Houston, Houston Community ToolBank, League of Women Voters of Houston, Bonding Against Adversity, Discover Fitness Foundation and most recently joined the National Immigration Forum.
Claudia has been featured and profiled in The New York Times and Latina Lista. She has been recognized as “Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women” by the Houston Woman Magazine, Changer Maker Award by the New Leaders Council-Houston, “Community Women of the Year” by Solo Mujeres, “35 Houston Latinos You Should Know!” by the Houston Chronicle, 2023 Mayor’s Volunteer Appreciated Award and “Top 50 Women Leaders of Houston” by Women We Admire.
Claudia is a Senior Fellow at the American Leadership Forum (ALF) graduate of Class LIV. ALF is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building stronger communities by joining and strengthening diverse leaders to serve the common good. Graduated from the University Language Institute in Oklahoma and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business.
