(Houston) - Mariachi Festival in partnership with Performing Arts Houston held its 4th Annual Mariachi concert on August 18-20, 2023, at the Wortham Theater in downtown Houston, Texas.
The sold-out three-day performance by Mariachi Festival delivered on its mission of promoting our Hispanic culture through the arts by producing a first-class event. The well-dressed attendees enjoyed superb performances by Mariachi Pumas from the University of Houston, Mariachi Mariposas, Mariachi 7 Leguas, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Ballet Folklórico, Mariachi Imperial de America, and Mexico en Danzas Grupo Folklórico. Special guest performers included Vanessa Alonzo (professional mariachi and opera singer) and Nayelli Pena (2023 Winner of the Mariachi Extravaganza Showcase in San Antonio).
“The highlights of the event on Friday, August 18th, were the performances by the winners of the Mariachi Festival National Youth Vocalist Competition. This includes Eduardo Antonio Trevino (Elementary School Division), Alan Aguilar (Middle School Division), and Dayanara Salinas (High School Division)”, says Marisol Mendez Nunez, Mariachi Festival Board Member. “These kids were awesome and I know they will be superstars one day.”
“On Saturday, August 19th, we were able to raise $20,000 for Eduardo Antonio Trevino for his showcase on America’s Got Talent to be aired on NBC on September 19, 2023. A big thanks to Hilton Koch with Hilton Furniture, Marco Gonzalez with The Gonzalez Law Group, and Greg Compean with Compean Funeral Home”, says Joaquin Martinez, Mariachi Festival Board Member.
The All-Star Youth Mariachi Group directed by Jose Longoria was a great compliment to the Mariachi Festival. They performed on Sunday, August 20th. This group was made up of students from throughout the Houston area that participated in the UH Mariachi Summer Camp.
Next year will surely be a grand slam as the Mariachi Festival continues to improve its events. We look forward to seeing the awesome talent at the 5th Annual Mariachi Festival to be held on August 23-25, 2024, at the Wortham Theater. It is important that our community and corporate America support this grand event so that Mariachi Festival can continue having events like this in Houston’s theater district.
