The Houston Mariachi is the Talk of the Town
Houston, TX, November 27, 2024 – The 5th Annual Mariachi Festival held on August 23-25, 2024, was the talk of the town as 7,000+ attendees descended upon downtown
Houston to watch some of the best mariachi groups in Texas. “There are so many people to thank for helping us make this event an annual tradition for families from all over Texas”, says Ben Mendez, Executive Director of Mariachi Festival. “We bring to Houston the best-of-the-best to perform in this spectacular theater. There is no other place like it in Texas.”

The Mariachi Festival kicked off with a bang with Mariachi 7 Leguas, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Ballet Folklorico, Carolina Rodriguez, and Oscar De La Rosa
(lead singer for La Mafia) performing in front of a sold-out crowd at the Wortham Theater. Emilio Santos, lead singer for the mariachi group entertained the crowd in
between songs with his humor. The audience sang along as the mariachis played traditional songs.

The second night started off with the University of Houston Mariachi Pumas, a vibrant group of mariachi students that delighted the crowd with their choice of songs. They
were followed by an all-female group, Mariachi Mariposas, Ballet Folklorico South Texas College, and Yasmine Duenes. The highlight of the evening were the winners of the
Mariachi Festival National Youth Vocalist Competition, which included a 7-year-old sensation named Alessandra Gutierrez from Bakersfield, California.

“We absolutely love having the winners of our youth competition be a big part of our show”, says Belinda Mendez Luna. “Their dream is to sing on the big stage and we
make that dream become a reality. These future superstars are from all over the country and they are hidden gems that just need a little exposure to take their careers to
the next level.

The final day included an all-star mariachi group made up of students from throughout the Houston area followed by Houston’s own, Mariachi Imperial de America, and Mexico en Danzas Grupo Folklorico. This group wowed the crowd with an accordion played by Daisy Zambrano and special guest singer, Eduardo Antonio Trevino, who is a viral sensation after appearing on America’s Got Talent in 2023.

“Mariachi Festival is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote our Hispanic culture through the arts”, says Macaria Mendez, Board Chair. “If you would like to learn more about us, visit us at www.MariachiFestival.com or call us at 832-971-2471.

We have events throughout the year. Our upcoming events include the largest golf tournament in Houston, the Cinco de Mayo Golf Tournament, and Loteria for a Cause.”
